Wesley Historical Society

The Wesley Corner School was built in the 1870's and most residents went to school here. Residents now have a place to meet and talk about the history of Wesley, remember old friends and stories from the past. We have had a few fundraisers this year and plan to continue with new Wesley History Books, Calendars, Cookbooks and suppers.
Membership is $5.00 a year, made payable to Wesley Historical Society, please send to Ivan Hawkins at 4525 Airline Road, Wesley Maine 04686 or Karen Wood 28 Cedar Lane, Wesley Maine 04686. Our meetings are in April, June, August and October, the third friday of each of these months at 7p.m. Several Newsletter will keep you updated with our progress and goals.
We are currently looking for recipes to put in our Cookbook. If you have a recipe from your family that you would like to include, please send to either address and add some information about yourself and the recipe you are sending.
If you have items you would like to donate to the Historical Society, we would love to have them and share them with the community. Please add as much information as possible about the person it came from.
We look forward to this coming year, and would love to have everyone involved in the renovations, fundraisers and fun times. See you at the next meeting.

In August we had a  guest speaker,Marcus LiBrizzi, UMM professor and DownEast Ghost Writer. He told his story of his latest book Ghosts of Acadia. Some books you may recognize are: Dark Woods, Chill Water: Ghost Tales from Down East Maine, Lost Atusville: A Black Settlement from the American Revolution, the Nelly Butler Hauntings: A Documentary History.
It was a wonderful event. Many books were signed and he had us all sitting at the edge of our seats. If you know of ghost stories that he could research, please contact him at University of Maine Machias. He would love to meet with you.
Our Supper/Auction was a great event. We had 82 folks come and many generous businesses and town folk donated to the event. We thank them all, as well as the many volunteers that made this happen.
A printer was donated to Historical Society that will help us make our own Calendars and preprints. A big 'Thank You' to Peter and Deb Aldridge from Pembroke.
Our entrance is finished, Thanks to Mark and Diane Delcourt. It is a beautiful room now. If you see them, be sure to tell them what a wonderful job they did.
The outside of the building has been painted thanks to the Downeast Correction Facility. The men scrapped, painted, replaced boards and took the old suspension ceiling down to reveal the tin ceiling. Efforts are showing and next year will show more improvements. If you would like to donate time or materials, please contact Ivan or Karen.
